Staying Sane in this Mad Competitive World

It’s a game of You or Me every day. We somehow make everything about winning. Winning the career game, ego game, who gets to say the last word, whose kid goes to which college, and god knows what more. To top it all we have social media. Whose life is more happening on Insta is the new trend. And like it or now, we get trapped in those games at some point or the other. Lucky are those who figure to get out and luckier are those who figure to not begin at all. Seriously, anyone who stays sane in such a mad competitive world deserves an award.

Every single day, we wake up and have someone ready to prove our worth to. And for some twisted reason, we immediately feel the need to get validated by them. Why? Because we are social beings. We live in a society and thus the need to feel appreciated. I don’t find it strange at all. It’s very natural to feel that way.

But you know what?

Sometimes, in between unmet expectations and life’s drama, we fall into a vicious circle of hate games. We get hurt by someone and to take off that heat, we do the exact same thing to someone else. And it goes in a circle.

Hurt people hurt

I heard this somewhere and I can see the point.

But I also heard this – Healed people heal.

A much better way put it, isn’t it?

We could make our life so much better if we could focus only on good things. How on earth we can do that? I get your dilemma.

This is how I steer away from unnecessary drama in life. (Although we can’t completely avoid it, we can limit it to have a healthy mind)

To begin with, I interact with people that resonate with me. Not necessarily people with similar characteristic traits but similar goals and ethics. It won’t be the same when we start interacting with people that can enhance us. You will realize that is what you’ve wanted all along.

In addition to the right community, every time something bothers me I tell myself ‘This is gonna be old news tomorrow, so don’t let it spoil your present’. This thought helps me so much to keep it all together in times of distress. It clears away the fog and makes everything clearer.

Furthermore, I ask myself ‘What’s important to you?’ Whenever there’s a disturbance in my mind I ask myself if the thing that’s bothering me is important. I set my priorities straight. You will see what’s truly important to you in a new light.

Last but not the least, as a result of this mad competitive world, fear of failure is quite natural. Most of the time when one fails, the immediate thought would be what will people think, will they question my ability, how am I gonna tell them I failed, etc. We fear the humiliation. I know it’s terrifying but that is a time to focus on yourself not on how people are gonna react. At such times, remember this — You did everything you could and now, you just have to muster the energy to pick yourself up and try again. And success will come to you.

This is how I stay sane in this mad competitive world. It’s inarguably challenging and that’s what makes it worth it. And frankly speaking, even the things that we consider negative can turn into our driving forces, can play a huge role in us meeting our dreams. So whenever you have some trouble, try asking yourself, “How can I turn this into an opportunity?”

Share your thoughts on this and we will meet again soon.

Lots of LOVE,

Nikki.
