5 Unconventional Ways to Meditate Every day

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

In.

Out.

Again.

And again, until you find inner peace.

This is how we were taught to meditate all these years. And yes, it is the best way to meditate. Finding ourselves in stillness is a great way to train our minds. But there’s no such thing as one size fits all. While our destination might be the same, our paths to it are different. Some find inner peace in stillness while some, in movement.

Can we say it’s wrong?

Absolutely not.

Meditation is a process, not a strategy carved in stone.

So let me tell you the 5 unconventional ways to meditate every day.

How to Meditate Every day

1. Writing

I write every day. For work and for pleasure. And there are some days where I don’t feel like writing but nevertheless when I put my pen to paper, I feel great. I see a shift in my mind.

Why do we meditate?

Because it is good for our mental health. And it is therapeutic.

So is writing.

That is exactly why writing is a wonderful unconventional way to meditate every day. You can simply throw away all the junk in your mind onto a paper and then feel loads lighter.

But here’s my suggestion, if you are doing this for healing purposes prefer a book and pen. Not a digital journal.

2. Art

I told you that some days I simply don’t feel like writing, then I still write but with a bit of art included. It energizes my mind and body.

The gentle brush strokes, vibrant colours, and slow hand movements — it is indeed therapy. Our minds are the happiest when they are creative.

If you don’t believe me, try it yourself.

3. Walking

Moving around takes our minds off of things that don’t matter. When I say walking I don’t mean the kind of walking you do when hustling at work. I mean the slow, peaceful, and pleasurable kind of walking — Those evening or morning walks in your garden.

Alone or in the company of a dear one.

4. Gardening

Tending to your garden is also a kind of meditation. Ever observed that your mind feels more open when you are with your plants? Yes, that is precisely what meditation does to your mind.

It diminishes your stress and anxiety levels greatly. The physical labour in your garden is of course healing but just being there also hugely helps your mental health. Just sit in your garden every day for a few minutes and see how enormously it affects your mind.

5. Cooking

Anyone who does cooking will agree with when I say getting lost in the process of cooking is also meditation. Again, not in a conventional way. But our minds know it. Cooking a delicious meal and enjoying every bit of the process, and then tasting your art piece is such a happy act.

The trick to meditate every day in these unconventional ways is to be mindful of your every movement in the process. Not just rushing through it.

Basically, my point is that anything that brings you peace is your meditation. Our aim must be how we feel rather than how we meditate.

Ergo, use these unconventional ways to meditate every day and stay connected to your inner self.

Much love,

Nikki.
