Freelancing is a dream career for many nowadays. Because it has its perks. One of the many is freedom. You are your own boss — The most appealing part of being a freelancer. Some take it as a full-time career and the others, only part-time. But if one knows the right way, freelancing can be quite a ludicrous career. Do you also want to start freelancing?
Then you must know the FIVE essential steps before you start freelancing.
How to start Freelancing?
When I wanted to have a proper career from home, I thought it was impossible. I believed it would never be close to an actual career. But eventually, I found all these amazing opportunities in the virtual world that now I think is quite difficult to achieve in a conventional career.
Every career path has its own share of pros and cons but seriously, freelancing is amazing. It is no less than any career, contrary to what people think.
So to start freelancing, one must have to decide a few things right at the start. Let’s see what are those.
1. Goals, Skills, & Priorities
Before you jump into freelancing, you must figure out certain things first. Three questions.
What is your goal to achieve through freelancing?
– Passive income, hobby, or something else?
What skills can you turn into services?
– Writing, web design, social media content, or what.
What are your priorities?
– Full-time or part-time, your charges, etc.
It’s important to get clarity in what you want and what you can do. So as the first step to start freelancing, figure out your goals, skills, and priorities.
2. Platform
What is your work platform going to be? The top freelancing websites are Fiverr and Upwork. There are many other websites as well but these two are most preferred. You can also do your own little research and pick one freelancing websites that you like the most.
For now, just stick to one.
3. Experience
Once you decide on the freelancing platform, you have to fill your profile with your information. And one of the essential pieces of info to specify is your work experience. You even have to attach links to your previous work too. It builds credibility in you and your work as a freelancer.
But since you are just starting, leave it for now, and go to the relevant Facebook communities and find work. Or else, follow your favourite brands and businesses on social media as they post remote working chances on their channels sometimes. You can reach out to them when that happens and see if it works. Once you successfully finish a couple of projects, you can showcase them in your profile as work experience.
4. Socials
I don’t have to emphasize how important social media has become to us. You don’t have to dabble in too many socials, just pick two to three platforms. Then build professional profiles — Purposeful bios, niche content, and clear design.
In a nutshell, when your prospect clients scope out your media, every bit of your profile must shout “professional.”
5. Personal Website
It’s great to have a personal website. It is more professional than any other things that I mentioned here. Your client will immediately be assured about you and see you as a professional. A personal blog or simply a website with your media kit, either way, you will come off as a credible freelancer.
