The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Uff… Finally! Letting out a long sigh in relief, I sat to write a long-overdue book review. I’m done with the longest read of my 2020. Seriously I’ve never been this tired of reading a book. You must be wondering what did I read to be this exhausted. Yes, coming to that point. The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I know the title sounds super intriguing. I thought the same.

But the book is 662 pages long. Dios mío!

I told myself, “what’s 660 pages if it’s a great story? I will just breeze through it.”

I love reading fantasy books. And as I said, the title “The Name of the wind” sounded so good that prompted me to give it a read.

SYNOPSIS:

“I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon.

I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life.

I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in.

I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day.

I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.”

The Name of the wind is a fantasy novel written by Patrick Rothfuss. It was his debut novel.

Positives:

  1. Fantasy lovers will enjoy it.
  2. The beginning of the story is nice.
  3. A good effort considering it’s the debut novel of the author, Patrick Rothfuss.

Negatives:

  1. A bit of a drag at many points.
  2. Why is a story interesting? Because we see an end. A good ending, perhaps. But with this book, that is not the case. The story never seems to end, not even on the very last page.
  3. 662 pages but not enough content relating to the title of the book itself, which is frustrating.

I did enjoy a few bits of the story now and then but the feeling wasn’t the same throughout the book. The story has some funny bits,  some clever bits, and some heroic as well. But still, I wasn’t that impressed.

I finished the book and now when I remember it the only thing that comes to my mind is that it’s just an average read. There’s not a single thing that actually made a lasting impression for me. Just my opinion.

It took me months to finish this book. I took several breaks while reading it, some lasted for weeks. My point is it hasn’t kept me hooked with anything interesting.

What’s more that impressed me is that the author did a great job with just his debut novel. I know what and how much it takes to writes a story. And frankly, I appreciate his efforts.

Rating:

*2.75/5*

I wouldn’t say it’s worst but it’s not what I expected.

Would I recommend it?

Maybe not.

If you wanna give it a try you can read the sample pages on Kindle. It’s great to see and decide if a book is interesting enough for you to continue reading.
