5 Alternate Ways to Book Reading You’re Missing

I love book reading. But sometimes I can’t help my laziness to even pick up a book, let alone reading it. I just wanna lie down and do nothing while things happen themselves. And then there are other times where I feel a dire need to get my head out of books and look at the real world. And FYI, there are also many things other than book reading that are fun and tantalizing.

Life is all about experiences and I believe no one should hold back from a new enriching experience. I am a huge advocate of trying new stuff. And in recent times, I got to have new and unexpected experiences. Thanks to the Internet, some of them didn’t even require me to step out of the home.

So are you ready to explore?

5 Just as enriching experiences as book reading

I get it, you are a book lover. But so am I. No matter how big of a book lover you are, you can’t help being lazy sometimes or perhaps wanting something more. Something different.

Well, here are some things you can try.

1. AudioBooks

This is my newest find. I have heard about audiobooks long before but I have never really tried. Because I love the weight of a book in my hands, turning a page, and obviously, the words on the page. It is one complete experience. So I never had to try an audiobook.

But a few days back, I downloaded Audible, just to see if it’s actually any good. The first audiobook I bought was ‘The Midnight Library’. It’s an altogether different experience — it needs some getting used to but — I love how relaxing it is to have someone narrate a story to you. Like how we used to listen to stories from our grandparents and parents.

2. Literary Art Galleries

We don’t hear much about literary art galleries but yes, it is a thing. A fascinating thing, in fact. What are we, if not a collection of stories? You live your story and also be a part of the stories of people around you. It is awfully intriguing, isn’t it? You can come across such captivating stories from the past in such art galleries and exhibitions — Literary or visual.

So next time when you get bored of fictional stuff, go to a literary museum/art gallery and explore some real stories.

3. Virtual World Tour

Travelling the world is a dream for many but very few can live it. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a taste of it. There’s a bunch of virtual tour websites and once you’re there, you’re in for a world of experiences.

Read all about my first virtual tour to Russia and you’ll get an idea. And actually, I’ve shared a list of websites like these before, you can also read it if you like: 5 Virtual Tour Websites.

4. Podcasts

Podcasting is a booming medium of communication these days. Its reach is growing wider by the day, thus the amount of information available is great. There are all different genres of podcasts available on different platforms and it is truly entertaining.

You can simply plug in your headphones while on your evening walk or on a long drive to the countryside, voila, your companion is set for the ride.

5. Documentaries

I’m sure you’re on Netflix, if yes, you have a plethora of documentaries over there to explore. Years back, documentaries have been a bit flat, but now documentaries are both informative and entertaining. And they got creative as well. There are many docuseries on Netflix on different subjects, find your kind and have a great time.

And here’s a list of some of my favourite documentaries from Netflix, see if they’re your type.

Cheers,

Nikki.

  1. Since my eyes get tired and I think it’s much better to have audiobooks while I travel, I do have a lot on my list now and I can just listen to them while I travel, work, or exercise, highly recommend it!

  2. I never heard of Literary Art Galleries before but it sounds interesting. I wish Japan could have a couple, even if it is an exhibit. It would be really cool.
