A place where my heart belongs

Each one of us has a different idea of “the most beautiful place“. In my opinion, the most perfect place on earth is where it’s filled with people’s laughter and love. For me, that is my grandparents’ house. It was always bustling with children playing around, festivals that are a huge deal, and elders that are always ready to share responsibilities. I was born and grew up in such a place.

I had the most amazing childhood surrounded by the people that I care about the most. If I show you the house I grew up in, you would see just a house; age-old walls, doors, and a roof. But I see memories. Every wall, door, roof, and every inch of that place holds a dear memory. We all have such places and this is mine.

It is a place where…

The sky seems bluer.

The sun seems brighter.

And the wind seems sweeter.

Every time I go there I instantly feel connected with the place and the surroundings, no matter how long it’s been.

There’s this yellow flower tree right in front of the house, that captivates me every time. It seems beautiful and somehow related to me.

The plants that my grandma tended. They grew so well. Even today, these plants give us flowers and fruits, which somehow help us keep the memories fresh and alive.

My granddad and I used to sit on these steps, after coming from school, and he used to feed me tangerines.

I laughed here, I cried here, I fell here, and I lived well here. I’m usually not the mushy kinda person but we can’t help feeling that unbreakable bond with some things. This is it for me.

After my grandparents are gone, when we were cleaning the house we found so many things that they saved as our memories; my 2nd standard storybook, my parents’ wedding invitation, my aunt’s computer books, our pictures, a sheet of paper with my birth details, and many more. The efforts they have put into raising this family is so endearing.

I feel stronger looking at all of that stuff they saved. I’m once again assured that I was brought up with so much love and care.

As I said, I don’t just feel connected to people, I feel connected to every tree, stone, and cat that lives at that place. I feel a sense of responsibility towards them.

And I think it’s healthy to re-visit those memories once in a while because that past is still a part of my present and future. It played a role in making me who I am today. So why not! Some of those might be sad or bad but still, they had a role in my story. These are the kind of memories that help us start over even when there are setbacks.

So… this is where my heart belongs.

This is where I feel the most comfortable.

And this is where I started.

Where’s your perfect place?

Lots of Love,

Nikki.
