How NOT to Kill Creativity

You’re killing your creativity.

You: What? Me?

Yes. You read it right.

You: Eh, so what?

I’ll tell you what. Creativity is not a bonus. It is what a happy life rides on. Did you ever feel monotonous or mentally exhausted?

I’m guessing yes.

But you don’t know how you can change that, do you?

This is what I’m talking about. I don’t know where the heck ever we got the idea that it is ok to be not creative. It’s gotta change.

The world runs on creativity. Whatever we have today is a result of the same creativity. Could we have invented wheels if we’re not creative? Could we have the craft pottery if we’re not creative? How about buildings? Name anything and you will see nothing but creativity.

And forget about all that, I’d say you have to keep your creativity alive to even be happy. To connect with yourself.

But you know what are the major creativity kills these days?

7 Creativity Killers

1. Mindless scrolling

Do you spends hours at a stretch everyday scrolling reels on Instagram? I heard a ‘yes’. Then your mindless scrolling is affecting your creativity. It isn’t letting your mind think new but used to mindlessly consuming information.

Unless you are an online creator and it is important for your content research, please minimize your scrolling time as much as you can.

2. Being overly occupied

Are you always doing something or the other? Think again. It isn’t always good to be always occupied. Relax and let your mind think. Allow yourself to explore your own mind.

If you are excessively focused on the outward stuff you lose sight of what’s going on within. When you know you need a breather, take it. Don’t overthink it and stretch for another hour or more.

3. Feeding your Mind Wrong stuff

When you feed your mind baseless comparisons with others, it will continue to do so. And when you feed it love, confidence, and compassion it will do the same. The point is you are the master of your mind. You decide what is right and wrong for you and your mind will obey.

Good things to feed your mind: New people, new cultures, love, kindness, passion, skills, healthy routines, nature exploration, and so. Basically, we all have answers within, what is wrong and what is not. But when some part of your mind resist something, the other part gives in. And it is not for good always. So be a rational thinker of your deeds.

4. Not Daydreaming

Daydreaming enhances our creativity. And once again, if you indulge in too many things and become too busy to daydream, it can be a bit of a pickle.

Have some time to yourself and just breathe in and out. Deep. And now imagine your goals, dreams, even fantasies. Live your dreams in your mind even before they happen.

It not just boost creativity but it will also help you become more focused.

5. Not using your hands enough

A study shows that writing in hand actually helps creativity. But now that everything has become digital, we rarely do that. We are so used to clicks and swipes that if we try to write all of a sudden, your pen literally trembles.

So try writing in hand.

6. Being excessively logical

Wherever there is logic, there is no magic. You don’t have to be so logical all the time. Sometimes, you can just let go, relax, and see beyond logic.

Ask yourself “What if this is a possibility?”

Trust me, you’re gonna find fascinating answers.

7. Thinking you’re Uncreative

Such a bummer. And a misconception. Each one of us is creative. You just have to find your way into it. Some like to paint, some like to write, and some like to dance. There are so many ways into creativity. Figure out what’s yours.

Hope your creativity never goes unnoticed. I’ll see you again next week. Leave a comment on your thoughts about creativity. I’d like an insight.

Cheers,

Nikki.
